6 Chapter 2 - Getting St arted What Y ou Will Need T o Ge t Started Before conn ecting the RISC Router 3500 R, please check the list b elow to make sure that you have received all of the items that are supp lied with the RISC Router 3500 R package.
Chapter 2 - Getting St arted 7 Thick Ethern et To connect the ro uter ’ s Ethern et interface to a stand ard ( thi ck) Eth ernet cable you will need a transceiver cable con nection at the correct loca- tion on your Eth ernet cable. The transceiver cable will attach directly to the DB-15 con nector on the ro uter.

Positi on the ears so that they are flush with the front of the case. The slotted holes in the ears will mate with th e mountin g holes in a standard 19 " rack.

20 Chapter 6 - Basic Configurat ion Guide Ethernet Interface Configuration Ethernet interfaces are con siderably easier to set up than wide area interfaces since there are no choices that need to be made regarding line communications devices and their parameters.

The Ethernet interface will autoconf igur e to use the two most com mon IPX frame types , and will autoadapt to co ndi- tions on the Ethernet.
