Overview 2 ViewCast System requ irements The following sys tem requirem ents relate to your O sprey® video capture card only. The vide o capture or encoding applicati ons you use will li kely require a m uch more pow erful system t han that which is listed below.
Osprey 240e/450e Use r Guide ViewCast 3 Installation Steps In all cases, use the s et up.exe progra m on the product CD or in the web package if you downloaded it . The setup progra m automa tes the Plug and Play steps needed to install t he driver s and ensures the y are performed corr ectly.

Setting Driver Properties 14 ViewCast Input tab The source of data fr o m an Osprey 240e/450e that streams to the Internet can c o me from a nu mber of devices such as DV D players, dig ital cameras, camc orders, and so f orth.

The AV Option exposes add itional inputs for Component and S-Vid eo as well as bala nced audio.

Video Input fi eld Osprey 240e The Osprey 240e is a single chann el card. It has multiple video inputs, bu t you can selec t only one of them at a time.

Setting Driver Properties 22 ViewCast Video Proc Amp tab Video Proc A mp stands for Video Process Amplifie r. It controls various charac teristics of streaming output from Osprey 240e/450e cards. The Video Proc Amp is the sec ond tab from th e left of the D evice 1A properties (Figu re 23 ) .
Osprey 240e/450e Use r Guide ViewCast 23 The Video Proc Amp tab has the following controls. Brightness and Contrast These terms are used fo r contrast ratio. It’s a measur e o f a display sy stem, defin ed as the ratio of the brig htest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system can produce.
Setting Driver Properties 24 ViewCast Video Decoder tab The Video Decoder tab is a Micr o soft DirectSh o w stand ard control for setting the NTSC /PAL/SECAM video standards (Figure 24 ). Note: These cont rols are also on the In put tab . Most users fin d the Input tab mo re convenient to use.

Setting Driver Properties 26 ViewCast RefSize tab Changes made to th e RefSize tab (Figure 25 ) apply to all video pre v iews and cap tures o n the curr ently selected device. The R efSize tab controls the features related to the reference siz e, format, and proportions of the v ideo.

Reference Size for Crop and Logo Placement This part of the dial og box d isplays the results of more fund amental settings made else where in the dialog box.
Setting Driver Properties 28 ViewCast 16:9 Wide Select 16:9 Wide f or 1.85:1 anam o rphic video such as DVD content and an y widescreen content. The output vide o size is 852 x 4 80 for 525-line standard s, and 1024 x 576 f or 625-line stand ards. To actually s ee output of this size, you have to also sele ct this size in y o ur applicati on.

Filters have tw o interrelated purp oses: They allow appli cations to enu merate and list DirectShow vide o capture and pre view pins or streams (each with differen t settings) as named entries in their video devic e select lis t.
Setting Driver Properties 34 ViewCast The driver includes a free evaluation version. Evaluation mode works the same a s licensed SimulStream except that an e valuation mod e graphic is alwa ys displayed on the video. For details about pu rchasing and installing SimulS tream, refer to the ViewCast website.

The frame has to be deinterlac ed or progressiv e. If it is not, and the video has motion, the result in scaled video will be large jagg ed patches on v ertical or diagonal edges.
Setting Driver Properties 38 ViewCast Currently Using group These indicators allo w you to see the curr ent algorith m . These are no t control bu ttons; they are read- only indicators. They are mainly useful in A uto Mode, to indicate which algorithm – Inverse Telecine or Motion Adaptive – is currently being applied.

Setting Driver Properties 42 ViewCast Device tab Device controls (Fig ure 38 ) are less often us ed items. Unless specifically not ed, changes made on this page apply to all fil te rs and all vide o previews and capture pins o n the currentl y selected de v ice.

For this purpose, Select File displays a standard Windows file selec t sub-dialog. If y ou do not select a file, the default will be c: diag240-1.

Setting Driver Properties 50 ViewCast Captions tab The Osprey 240e /450e driv er has four wa ys of deliveri ng NTSC Closed Capti o n (CC) data: It can render capti o ns directly on t o the video befor e it leaves th e driver. It can send decod ed caption data t o a DirectSho w-compliant CC pin.

Setting Driver Properties 56 ViewCast Pin Select You can have different setups for the two pins. For example, you could enable th e logo on the capture pin but not on the pre view pin, and thereby save s ome CPU time.

Setting Driver Properties 58 ViewCast Weighting The degree of weigh ting of the log o is variable thr ough 100 steps. If the setting is 100, the logo will b e 100% opaque.

Since the positionin g rectangle may be scaled d own from the full vide o size, th e Nudge buttons all ow more accur ate positioning of the logo.
Setting Driver Properties 60 ViewCast Size and Crop tab This tab (Figure 57 ) has tw o functions. It sets the d efault output size, whether or not you enable cr opping.

The Audio Driver 82 ViewCast the list of audio inpu t and output de vices, including one or more Ospre y c ards . When you have chosen the device, click OK , and you will be r eturned to the Recording Control display ( Fi gure 71 ). The Osprey devic e is not a mixer in that it does not allow for mixing the various audio sources.

The Audio Driver 84 ViewCast Audio formats The Osprey hard ware supports sampling of analog au dio at 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz i n 1 6-bit PCM format. Captured audio da ta is down-sampled and reformatt ed .

The Audio Driver 86 ViewCast Audio level This control sets the hardware Input Reference le v el and software-based Boost factor. The settings ar e separate for each inp ut of each de vice, and are app lied to whiche v er input is sel ected in the current application or in th e system mixer.
